Matthias Schüppen (*1961) studied law in Freiburg and business management in Bochum and Hagen. He worked with Graf Kanitz & Partner, Freiburg, from 1988 to 1992. In 1993 he joined the internationally renowned firm of Haarmann Hemmelrath, where he was a partner for 10 years until 2005; in 2001 he built up the firm’s Stuttgart office. Together with Thomas Graf von Kanitz and other partners, he set up GRAF KANITZ, SCHÜPPEN & PARTNER in January 2006.

Dr. Schüppen specialises in company law, capital markets and mergers & acquisitions (including venture capital and private equity), mediation between (family) shareholders, company tax law and accounting and legal aspects of company valuation. In addition to his activities as an advisor and expert, he is a member on the supervisory boards of several family-owned firms and listed companies.
He is the (co-)editor and author of numerous publications including "Frankfurt Commentary on the Securities Acquisition and Takeover Act" [Frankfurter Kommentar zum WpÜG, 2nd ed. Frankfurt 2005, and the "Munich Guide to Stock Corporation Legislation for Lawyers" [Münchener Anwaltshandbuch Aktienrecht], Munich 2005.
